The Coyote Point Museum
The Encoraging Voice of Nature:
November 15 - January 31, 2006
To herald this coming new year, Coyote Point Museum is partnering with the Redwoods City Art Center to display the works of 17 artists who have studios at the Art Center. This is the first time the group has come together for a collective exhibit. A wide range of media is represented in the show, from oils and watercolors to collage and assemblage. All of the art work gives voice to the individuals artist's observation of nature and the environment. Images depicted include wilderness scenes, embellished body casts, engaging animal portraits, impressionistic gardens, fabulous florals, and thought provoking art constructions made from recycled materials and found objects.
MICROBES:
Invisible Invaders...Amazing Allies Exhibit
January 21 - May 14, 2006
This exhibit uncovers a mysterious universe of microscopic organisms - from those that sustain life on Earth to those that threaten our health and even our existence. This exhibit takes children on an interactive journey through the hidden world of microbes. Kid-friendly technology highlights these hands-on activities and makes learning exciting and fun for all ages. In addition to interactive displays featuring virtual reality and 3-D animation, theatrical sets and special effects bring microbes to life.
AVIARY:
New Refurbished 4,000 square foot walk-through Aviary opened on October 1, 2003 and now houses over four-dozen non-reeasable, native California birds. Landscaped trees and plants, along with a pond and waterfall, give visitors an opportunity to view the birds up-close in a natural setting.
HONEYBEE EXHIBITION:
Visitors will be introduced to the world of bees as they walk-through an enlarged honeycomb into a new honeybee exhibition. A hollowed out log houses a live beehive, with information on wild and commercial hives. Visitors can also don wings and antennas and learn two bee dances, complete with accompanying music. An interactive display explains the anatomy of honeybees, and another section displays many products made with honey and beeswax. Tools used in commercial beekeeping is also on display, with some beekeeping gear available for visitors to try on.
RIVER OTTER FEEDING:
Daily at 12.15
Always a family favorite, our frisky River Otters frolic and play during their daily feeding. Guests can observe our pair of otters in their habitat from BOTH above ground and through the underwater observation window!
