San Francisco Maritime Park

Come Aboard for a Voyage into History! Experience San Francisco's authentic maritime history at San Francisco Maritime Park. Board and explore historic merchant and naval ships, learn about life on a WWII submarine, relax at scenic Aquatic Park and witness the best views of San Francisco Bay. SF Maritime Park brings maritime history to life through youth and adult education programs, special cultural and history oriented events, publications and thousands of maritime and naval artifacts.

The Maritime Museum situated in serene Aquatic Park includes photographs, paintings, ship models and other artifacts specific to Pacific Coast maritime history as well as the exhibit Sparks, Waves and Wizards - Communication at Sea. The Maritime Library includes thousands of books, periodicals, photographs, film and other artifacts.

Located at the west end of San Francisco's Fisherman's Wharf, this park includes the fleet of national historic landmark vessels at Hyde Street Pier, a visitor center, a maritime museum, and a library/research facility. Visitors can board turn-of-the-century ships, tour the museum and learn traditional arts -- like boatbuilding and woodworking. The Park offers educational, music and craft programs for all ages, and provides unique opportunities for docents, interns and volunteers to learn more about the nation's maritime heritage.

The Mermaid, the one-man sailboat that transported a solo adventurer across the Pacific from Japan in 94 days, is displayed on the balcony, along with a statue by San Francisco sculptor Beniamino Bufano. The current third floor exhibit is "Sparks, Waves and Wizards: Communications at Sea." Second floor displays include three photomurals of early the early San Francisco waterfront, lithographic stones, scrimshaw and whaling guns.
